4 Effective Ways to Reduce Acne Scarring

Posted on the 22 July 2015 by Sparklesandstretchmarks @raine_fairy

Acne is a common skin disorder that affects many people and leaves them feeling self-conscious about their face and skin. Acne, which presents itself in mild, moderate and severe forms, is perhaps most common among teenagers through their adolescence years, with scarring affecting them well into adulthood. Fortunately, modern technology and medical science has found a number of ways to clear acne and reduce scarring to limit the impact it has on sufferers’ lives.
Chemical Peeling
Chemical peeling is a cosmetic treatment that is used to improve and smooth the texture of the skin and is usually used on the face to treat long-term acne scarring. Chemical peeling works by removing the top layer of skin to make way for the smoother, regenerated skin underneath. While some chemical peels can be purchased without a prescription, if you want effective results, it is important to seek professional advice from a cosmetic surgeon, dermatologist or skin specialist such as  Cosmetic Surgery For Women. Chemical peels often have an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory affect on acne, so your skin will be left feeling smooth and rejuvenated after the treatment, and it can also help skincare products penetrate your skin’s lower levels.
Medicated Skincare
To maintain acne and prevent it from resulting in further scarring, a medicated skincare treatment can be prescribed by your healthcare professional. Salicylic acid, retinoic acid, benzyl peroxide and antibiotic washes and lotions are common to treat acne and manage scarring on a long-term plan. Just be aware that some applications can have side-effects, so ensure that you are fully informed on what these could be, if applicable.
Mineral Make-up
Cosmetic and skincare products often contain a high level of toxins and chemicals that do more harm than good to your skin. Instead, opt for organic and eco-friendly brands with natural ingredients and use mineral make-up rather than liquid based ones. Liquid foundations especially are known to clog hair follicles and trap oils underneath the skin, allowing bacteria to develop into pimples and blackheads. If your skin is sensitive and prone to breakouts, you should certainly consider switching to mineral make-up products and organic cosmetic, skincare and hygiene brands where possible.
Laser Treatments
Once acne has been banished, laser treatments are used to reduce scarring and repair the skin. Laser treatments work by causing a controlled wound to the deeper layers of the skin, which makes the body heal itself by producing more collagen fibres and repairing the skin on the surface. Laser treatments can dramatically alter the texture of your skin, so if you have severe scarring that causes low self-esteem, laser treatments could be a good option.
While acne is frustrating and disheartening for sufferers, it is a condition that can be treated, managed and cleared with the right procedure. If you have acne or suffer from
long-term scarring, consider the tips above and seek professional advice before undergoing any treatment.
