A Little Motivation Goes a Long Way

Posted on the 03 July 2016 by Bellshann @bellshann

When I was in college I remember saying to my Mum something along the lines of "I know I'm doing the right thing because of the feeling I get when I'm proud of a photo I have taken or the excitement I get when an idea comes into mind".

I remembered this whilst driving to work one day this week. Somewhere, some part of me fell out of love with creating after college, and I think it was partly because of the feelings I am experiencing once again now. When you realise how deeply you love something, you start to invest more time into it, more energy. So that's what I've been doing lately, utilising both my time and energy into what I love. However, sometimes things don't go as planned, or maybe you don't even know what you planned in the first place.

It's no hidden fact that we are all our own worst critics. I'm terrible at looking at my own photos thinking they're no good, that they share no story and comparing myself to others. This time, I recognise this feeling and instead of giving up, all I am going to do is practise. I'm going to take photos and hope I like them, and if not, well maybe I'll like the set I take the next day. Because not giving up is worth the feeling you get when you do something that makes you proud and happy you were there in that very moment.

This weekend my love and I took a stroll along the seafront just an hour away from where we live. In true British fashion we ordered a bag of chips and sat watching the tide make its way in. The sound of water is such a relaxing thing to listen to and balances your soul - just what I needed to set my goals straight again.

It's important to practise what makes your heart happy.
