Almost Friday!

Posted on the 01 November 2012 by Gandbblog @GandBblog
Happy Almost Friday!  I hope everyone had a great Halloween and you did not eat too much candy. Lies. Not that many of you readers went trick or treating or anything. I mean that's for like seventeen five year olds. Crap, my secret is out. I went trick or treating when I was 17. First of all, I am short. Second of all, I looked about 12 at the time. Third of all, I had on a mask, so my age was not revealed. Fourth of all, that was the only time I have ever gone in my life. Boom.
I have to say, we had no trick or treaters. Honestly, I am okay with that. I would rather not have snot nosed kids yelling at me to smell their feet or whatever. Just kidding. I love the little children.
Anyhow, I am about to have a student lay into me about registration. So, I will be back in a moment.
So, as many of you know I am in crazy decorating mode because we just moved into a new apartment. I am kind of relieved we don't live in a house yet, because I wouldn't be able to sit still without totally freaking out. I am struggling with ideas and ways to make our home as functional and beautiful as possible. I gave up Pinning, but lately, it's the best place to go for inspiration. Truthfully, I am struggling with pinpointing our style. When we got married, we had nothing, so much of it we bought or things were given to us as gifts. Now, that over two years has passed, I want to be able to establish our style and invest in pieces that will last us a long time! I would say everything is somewhat mismatched and hodge podge, which is great- when it's intentional. I am in love with antiques, vintage, but I also love modern touches. If I could build a house, I would have the kitchen look almost like a cafe, complete with vintage style coffee bar. The dining room would have a beautiful hutch for setting dishes, linens, and cups. I would have food inspired prints and art, along with some other items for the walls. The bedroom would be serene and clean. I love blues, neutrals, white, anything calming and open. For the bathroom I need lots of storage, soft bath mats, and a shower curtain that has both a sophisticated pattern and palette. The office would be organized- an oasis for blogging, bill paying, studying. Lots of space for books and knick knacks, and a long antique or distressed industrial style table for my husband and I to share as a desk. A leather couch for snoozing or laying immersed in deep thought {yeah right}. This is my dream home. How can I incorporate this in an apartment? A somewhat simple, modern style, bland apartment? Don't get me wrong, its great space. But its an empty canvas. I need things to fill it and make it a home.
Here's what I have seen that I love:

 What do you think?
Can we pull it off in an apartment style home? I definitely see this being a long-term home, at least for longer than one year, which is our current record. I just want people to come in and see that what we have chosen to do makes sense.
I will update you all on the color palettes we choose. We are going to work around a current stuff, which the theme for now is, BROWN. Brown sectional, brown bedroom furniture, brown dining room table with brown chairs, brown leather couch, brown, brown, brown. I definitely want to incorporate some color. I would rather not paint the walls, since its a rental.
Any sites or advice you have would be greatly appreciated!
