Baby Cots: Things That You Need To Know Before You Make A Purchase

Baby cots are simply a great way to ensure that the young ones are well-rested. They are worthwhile purchases that offer unmatched relaxation and sound sleep. In addition, baby cots are comfortable, lightweight, affordable, and easy to maintain; they are perfect for parents who want the best for their children. However, it is important to keep a few things in mind before investing in one.

Points to Consider

Baby Cots: Things That You Need To Know Before You Make A Purchase
  • Baby cots with adjustable heights prove more useful as the heights can be progressively reduced as needed.
  • Cots with protective rails that either slide or drop down are the most ideal as they are not only safe, but also make it easy for the mother to attend to the baby. However, all it takes is a seemingly comfortable padded mattress, to compromise safety. Take care to factor in the height of the mattress before deciding on the rail height, to ensure that the kid stays safe behind the bars.
  • How soft should the mattress be? Make note that mattresses should be both firm and comfortable, but never too soft as they can suffocate the baby if he/she turns over during sleep. They should fit snugly, allowing literally no chances for the kid to be trapped between the mattress and the sides of the cot.
  • Decorative cots are fine. They simply should not have any sharp points; must not in any way trap the head or limbs of the baby; and should not offer a foothold for the baby to attempt an escape! Dangling attractions too are not advisable.
  • Sturdy frames and long-lasting locking mechanisms are a must to stand regular use.
  • Lastly, baby cots should confirm to British Standards (BSEN716).

Not all baby cots are expensive investments. They can be used by other children in the family, or be put to better use if the choice is well-made. Ever wondered what happens if the baby starts chewing on the rails of the baby cot? Yes, cot paints today profess to be free of toxins, but need an attentive eye. Regardless, investing in a branded teething rail can protect both the child and the cot from any harm!
