Baby Shower Cupcake Wrappers and Toppers

Posted on the 08 February 2012 by Msadams @HilaryFerrell
If you read yesterday’s post, you know that I made some hazelnut cupcakes for a baby shower at church last week.  To make the cupcakes more baby shower appropriate, I decided to gussy them up with custom cupcake wrappers and toppers.  Want to see how it came together?

Pretty cute, huh?  So now that you’ve seen the final product.  I’ll share with you the tutorials to make your own baby shower cupcake wrappers and toppers.
Baby Shower Cupcake Wrapper Tutorial
Cupcake wrappers are one of the world’s easiest DIY projects.  All you need to do is trace and cut.  It’s that easy.
I found a template for cupcake wrappers on Weddingbee and printed it out.

After cutting out my cupcake wrapper template, I figured out the best layout to maximize the number of cupcake wrappers per sheet of scrapbook paper.  With my configuration figured out, I traced the cupcake wrapper template.

Then I just cut out my wrappers.  To make the edges a little fancier, I used a decorative pair of scissors on the top curve.  After a little bit of cutting, I had all of the cupcake wrappers.

To attach the wrapper together, I put two lines of double stick tape next to each other on one side of the wrapper.

Voila! You have custom cupcake wrappers.  Could that be any easier?

After your cupcakes are finished baking, I recommend sticking your cupcakes into the wrappers.  It’s much easier to frost a cupcake inside a wrapper than it is to stick a frosted cupcake in a wrapper.

Before I could cut out my cupcake toppers, I needed to create some templates.  I decided to make two kinds.  One was made of individual letters that spelled “B-A-B-Y B-O-Y.”  The other was a blue onesie on a white rectangle.
Using Microsoft Publisher, I typed out “BABY BOY” in Gills Sans Ultra Bold size 135.  I also searched for onesies and found a cute, easy to cut out picture.  I enlarged the picture so that the onesies would be about 1 inch tall.  If you are interested in the template, send me an email and I’ll be happy to give it to you.

Then it was just a matter of tracing.

To make a backing for the onesies, I just cut out some 1 ½ inch by 1 inch rectangles from white cardstock that I already had.

Then I just used some double stick tape to attach the onesies to the rectangles.

After I had everything cut out, I fired up my handy glue gun and grabbed some toothpicks.
Baby Shower Cupcake Wrappers and Toppers  I then squeezed out a thick line of glue on the backside of each template.  Make sure that you center your glue line as much as possible.

Then, while the glue is still wet, stick in your toothpick.

Then you just repeat for all your toppers.
Once you are finished frosting your cupcakes, stick your toppers into your cupcakes.

In a matter of less than a few hours, you have personalized cupcakes that can be customized for any occasion.  Just think of all the different kinds of cupcake toppers you could make using the same method.  I mean Valentine’s is right around the corner ;)
What occasions have you made custom cupcake wrappers for?
