Babymoon At The Moorland Garden Hotel

Last weekend, Jon & I were invited for a Babymoon stay at the nearby Moorland Garden Hotel near Dartmoor National Park in Devon.

I was so excited at the prospect of a night "off" from mommy duties and the drive wasn't too far in my heavily pregnant state so of course, we agreed!
The hotel was pretty easy to find and was located in idyllic countryside surroundings, very peaceful and pretty! Yet only a very short drive from the bustling city of Plymouth, so truly the best of both worlds.
The reception staff were so friendly and accommodating upon our arrival, and we were shown to our room which was a premier double.

It was large, light and airy with very tasteful decor - exactly as I'd expect from a country hotel with some very pretty touches here and there. I was pleased to see fresh fruit and biscuits laid out for our arrival, along with a selection of local magazines and a local newspaper.
The room had all of the amenities you might need - a flatscreen TV with freeview, a hairdryer, a bath with shower over, a wardrobe, drawers, a trouser press and a telephone along with free and easy to access wifi which worked perfectly well.

The view across the gardens from our room were really something special, and the bed was so comfortable that we actually did quite the rock n roll thing and had a nap before dinner! You know you're parents when the main things you want from a night away at a hotel are sleep, food and more sleep!
Once we woke from our little nap, I took a shower (the power shower was really lovely, I have to say!) and we headed down to the hotel restaurant for dinner.
The restaurant was lovely, there were about 7 other couples dining that Friday evening but nothing felt cramped and the waiting staff were friendly, relaxed and efficient.

We both ordered the leek & potato soup for starter which was served with fresh bread, butter and rock salt - we both thoroughly enjoyed this, and appreciated that more bread was offered afterwards which is quite rare.
For the main course, I ordered the steak in red wine jus with chips - it was really tasty and the meat was cooked just as I had requested.
Jon ordered the duck which he said was delightful, cooked to perfection and very tender and tasty.
For desserts I went with the chocolate delice which was much like a brownie and was very moorish, although I could have done without the accompanying prunes - the earl gray tea ice cream was something I've never tried before and it was quite something!
Jon chose the banana cake which came in a somewhat deconstructed form, he said it was deliciously moorish and very light - the accompanying honeycomb was a big hit! (I know...I stole it from his plate...)
Coffee was served after dinner, and we then headed up to our bedroom for more of the rock and roll lifestyle (watching Big Brother and having an early night!).
The following morning we opted for breakfast in bed, which was served hot and in timely fashion - the perfect send off before we headed off back to reality!
The Moorland Hotel is a delightful country hotel perfect for a stop over or romantic night away, and I can't speak highly enough of the friendly and efficient staff.
