Happy Halloween postcard created using Jack-o-ween

To get in the mood for Halloween and all things spooky I give you my pick of Halloween themed iPhone / iPad apps for kids.
Dress Jack-o-ween by Punflay is a fun app that allows you to create your own pumpkin by selecting the shape, face, accessories and background for your pumpkin and also lets you add a spooky message from a list or by recording your own. You then have the option to email your creation as a postcard or save it to your photo album. Ben loves playing this app, we have created lots of scary pumpkins with his favorite being the pirate pumpkin who says Boo! This app is free to download and is definitely a bit of fun for Halloween.

The next app is Kids Halloween Flashcards by eflash Apps which is perfect for introducing Halloween words to little ones. Ben is now fully versed in all things Halloween thanks to this. This app is free to download from the AppStore for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

Ben loves colouring apps so Halloween Colouring Book by Peep Software is a big hit with him. We tested a few colouring apps before settling on this as our favorite as it has more toddler-friendly features than the others including the option to auto-fill, select 'inside the line' colouring along with a great choice of images which can be saved to the in-app Gallery, your Photo Library or emailed. Ben and I have had a lot of fun with this app and have created some truly spooktastic pictures :). This app is free to download from the AppStore for the iPhone and iPad.

Ace Math Halloween by Brain Counts is a fantastic educational Halloween themed app which uses spooky images to visually teach children how to add and subtract. As each level is completed a monster prize is unlocked and the monster prizes can be played with. The maths questions get more challenging as the levels are completed which is great for helping children improve their maths skills in a fun way which they will love. Ben, who is two years old, enjoys playing this and is more than capable of counting and subtracting the pictures to solve the maths problems on the easy levels.  This app is free to download from the AppStore and is compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

The final app I want to tell you about is Spooky Playtime Lite by Bombing Brain Interactive which has two fun games to choose from. The first called Haunted House where you have to match pairs of Halloween themed images including ghosts, witches and so on. The second is Pumpkin Patch which is Ben's favorite where you have to catch a certain number of cats as they pop up out of pumpkins. This is another app which guarantees a bit of Halloween fun for your little ones. Spooky Playtime Lite is free to download from the AppStore for the iPad, iPhone and iPad touch. A full version which features seven games is also available to purchase for £1.99.
