Birthday Steak

Posted on the 03 November 2011 by Thesecretlifeofjen

Due to the impending due date of my thesis, unfortunately I could not plan anything special for Mr. J’s birthday.  I wanted to surprise him with a weekend away, but I couldn’t be sure if I would be done or not.  So instead, I put a stop to all work, and devoted his entire birthday evening to him, with a dinner reservation.

Mr. J’s preference, is steak.  That is all.  So where do you go for the best steak in Canberra?  Kingsley’s Steakhouse.

Birthday SteakHow do you like Mr. J’s arty photo taking skillz!  ;)

The food was amazing, as usual…  We started with the cobb and garlic butter, a wine for me, beer for Mr. J.  I had the 200g medium rare and Mr. J went all out for the angus.  Mash for me, fries for him, and greenbeans on the side.  We finished with a cheesecake. Nom Nom Nom.

Birthday SteakUnfortunately the same cannot be said for the service.   Started well enough, we were warned that there was a large booking, and there would be a 30minute wait…  Fair enough, 60minutes later our steaks arrived.  But no greens.  Warning, rant ahead – A few minutes in, the waiter let us know it would be a few minutes.  Half way through our meals, I asked the waitress not to worry.  She returned saying they were ready, but will hold them.  Another waitress, apparently accidentally serves them.  Rather than waste the food, we try them.  The initial waitress returns saying that they were served accidentally, but spoke to the manager – and how lucky we are – they will remove them from the bill.  When the time comes, the bill arrives… with greens ;)   We just decide to pay, it’s $8 or something, so no biggie.  But then we are given a second, amended bill.

Such a big fuss, over nothing.

Anyway, it was a lovely night  :)
