Bishops Lydeard Wedding: The Church Ceremony

Posted on the 19 October 2016 by Belinda Mccarthy @b_mccarthyphoto

Time to take a look at this lovely Bishops Lydeard wedding in Somerset, this time to visit the most important part of the wedding day - the ceremony! This wonderful couple, whose bride and groom preparations we've already featured on the blog, married at the enormously picturesque Cothelstone Church in front of a packed house of their friends and family - and were greeted by a bagpiper atop of the church tower, who also happened to be a family friend, so joined in the ceremony as a guest shortly after his star turn!

This classic English church wedding ceremony in Somerset was truly lovely and a pleasure for me as a wedding photographer to be able to photograph. At each wedding I photograph, I always come away with some new trick or little piece of knowledge to pass on to other clients, At this lovely Somerset wedding, there was one super trick that the bride and groom employed in order to make their group shots happen as quickly as possible - and one that I shall be recommending to other clients! Here it goes...

The bride and groom wanted a short list of family group photographs at church - but also wanted to make sure that these happened really quickly so that they were all free to celebrate without any undue interference and waiting around. Cothelstone Church, like many English churches, has two doors; one at the end of the aisle and one to the side. For this wedding day, the bride and groom arranged with the vicar that family and wedding party would exit to the side door, where their group photos were to be taken, whilst the rest of the congregation exited at the rear. So, immediately after the family had all exited at the side door, we put together the group shots, which were all complete by the time the guests had exited at the rear! What a clever use of time, and certainly the most organised and quickest set of group shots I've ever had the pleasure of photographing!

So feel free to use that very organised trick to make YOUR wedding group shots run flawlessly... and in the meantime, take a look at some of my favourite shots from the church ceremony at this delightful Bishops Lydeard wedding day. Enjoy!
