Blogging Updates

Posted on the 13 February 2012 by Laureneverafter @laureneverafter

So, I was doing some thinking over the weekend about my blog. I was really slack last week about posts, and especially slack with “marketing” them, so to speak. Things here are just going to be a little uneven until I graduate, or at least until I finish this advanced history class I’m taking, which will be the end if February – thank goodness. However, I want to try to get somewhat of a schedule going for the coming weeks.

On my old blog I did a weekly Monday’s Musings. I got the idea from the then title of my blog (Her Silent Musings), and would talk about things that provoked discussion among my readers. Instead of calling it Monday’s Musings here, I thought I might call it by my old blog’s title, and make it a weekly update on Monday’s.

The next idea I got for my blog came from stripping my hardback books of their sleeves. As I peeled them off, one by one, I came across a book I’d ordered off Amazon a while back. It was a compilation of quotes from Madeleine L’Engle. I thought it would be neat to do a kind of Tuesday’s with Morrie thing with them, and write a post for each of her quotes, and make a weekly thing of it. I absolutely love Madeleine L’Engle, and eat up any bit of wisdom she’s left behind for us. I’ll call it, Mornings with Madeleine and the posts will take place on Wednesday’s. And who knows? Maybe when I’m done with the book, I’ll keep looking for more quotes and keep the posts going. However, I’m debating holding these posts off until after I graduate, that way I can really spend some time with the book and glean the most I can from them in order to make the posts their absolute best.

I’d also started something called Memoirs of a Quiet American on my old blog that I’d like to pick up again. While these may not occur every week, the day the posts will go up will be Friday’s. This will be a good way for me to work on my memoir writing and help in preserving my memories.

As for when I’m not doing Friday memoir posts, I think I’d like to do a weekly wrap-up similar to Sarah Dessen’s Friday Five – just a random conglomeration of thoughts, plans, and updates. I’m also wanting to do guest posts and make that a Tuesday thing, so if you’re interested in those let me know. I’d love to have you here! I will stick to doing Nora’s Wine and Love posts on Thursday’s, unless I have a book, or so, I want to review. In those cases, I will do what Stephany does and write three mini-reviews at a time and update on the last Thursday of the month. This may not happen, again, until after graduation, because right now I just can’t read as much as I want to.

Lastly, I was struck by an idea of both giving away and getting rid of books that I think will be interesting to try. Something called Serendipity Saturday’s where I pick a random book from my collection to leave in a random place for someone to find and hopefully take home with them. I don’t know, maybe there won’t be much to blog about on this topic, but I’ll give it a try a few times and see what happens. Do you think maybe I should leave a note with my blog address included so we can get more story on the finder’s experience in finding the book? That wouldn’t be very serendipitous, but I could give it another name.

What say you to all this? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
