Carpe Diem

Posted on the 16 May 2012 by Nickmcdonald @W_W_O_Nick_McD
Latin for "Seize the day", a saying that I have taken to heart. But I prefer the longer version, the origin of this common phrase, spawned by the great mind Quintius Horatius Flaccus that created this ideology that I hold so close to my heart.
Dum loquimur, fugerit invida
Aetas: carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero
In english
While we're talking, envious time is fleeing: pluck the day, put no trust in the future
I'm not much of a poet, but I love this, It speaks to me so clearly. I never plan things, I want things, but I never plan to get them, I just get them. I don't stand aside and slobber over what I desire, I go out and I get it, even if I never actually get it, you at least always find something along the journey that you start to want more than the thing you are striving for!! Then the path changes but the struggle is always there, the struggle is life, not "life" as people call it, but life as I call it. Life is about always having what you want; You may say that you have to make compromises, but that's "life" not life. I believe that you can never do something that you don't want to do. For instance:  woman asks her husband to take out the trash and he does it. He would have rather stayed and watched TV but the pros outweigh the cons, if he didn't his wife would get mad and he doesn't want that so by default he WANTS to take out the trash, that is what wanting is, doing what is best for yourself.
There is no "better" if you put aside all of your effort into building a future, you might have one, but at what cost? Look at someone who has everything like Paris Hilton, or Lindsey Lohan, do they look happier than that beautiful elderly lady you see crossing the street with a big smile on her face just happy that her heart is still beating? No, they do drugs, go to prison, and put out sex tapes to get the attention they crave to feel good, to feel wanted. Material wealth corrupts the fabric of nature aside from the basic necessities, all a person needs in ONE thing that makes him truly happy, ONE thing that gets him out of bed in the morning, ONE thing that he desires more than anything else that thing may change with the season, they may come and go as you loose interest, but you NEED that thing, if you don't have it, you can not truly live, wither it be your family, your child, that special someone, or just a bad ass dirt bike!!
That old lady, she has no future, it's sad but it's true. Life is no longer an infinite wonderland of stress and fury, it is a beautiful blessing that deserves to be savored. It takes most people till the end of their life to reach this state; It is a feeling of eternal bliss, apathy to anything negative, and a desire, no, a PASSION to live life to not only its potential, but its limits. #YOLO
