…Change Your Stripes

Posted on the 22 July 2014 by Zer @the2women

20140722-184549-67549092.jpgThe popularity of Netflix’s original series, “Orange is the New Black” has sparked a new fashion trend, both in and outside of prisons.

Yes, good news fans of adult-size one piece ensembles and the color orange, the orange jumpsuit is back in style.

Which is a good thing for fashionistas and Netflix, but not so good for those in charge of keeping track of inmates.  I’ll leave my judgement, and snarky comments regarding this kind of reaction to the show for another time.  Really?  All you got from this groundbreaking series that exposes the shortcomings of our prison system, and boasts one of the most impressive female ensembles ever seen in a television series, is that orange jumpsuits are cute?

Okay, I’ll leave the rest of my judgement for another time.

Anyways, turns out it’s really hard to tell the difference between a fashion statement and a felon.

This new trend has gotten so popular that a Michigan sheriff has decided to make a bold statement by switching inmate uniforms to the retro black-and-white strip.

It seems like a good enough idea.  After all, I hear stripes are the new orange, which was formerly known as black.

It’s nice to know the prison system have someone looking out for the fashion-conscious prisoners.
