Christmas Poem

Posted on the 11 December 2012 by Ashleylister @ashleylister
I wrote a Christmas Rondeau last week, but i have written another poem which doesnt really follow any particular structure. It's more of a rhymed rant really. I apologize if it dampens your Christmas spirit in any way (I am not a grinch really) The first line of my favorite Christmas poem is in there too, as a quick hint. That poem makes me feel nostalgic :)

Twas the night before Christmas, and the fires burning oakCause the clear winter skies to be lit with dashes of smoke.
Near one of these wild fires lies a fat ginger cat,
Eyeing the glittering tree with one eye, paw twitching to bat,
A dangling bauble precariously swings under its string,
Yet the cat is spaced out on heat from the fire’s burning ring,
Taunting with fire light that lights up the frosty grain,
Of ice that criss-crosses on the darkened window pane,
And bare naked tree’s that kiss the sliver baubles of the sky,
That mirror the nature beneath that has no intention to die.
Whilst the world frantically empties their material pockets,
Spending it on crap such as bath salts and rockets.
Not even the mouse is awake to witness such events as these,
With a world full of people who are now so easy to please.
And a society has all but forgotten the traditions that once were sacred.
