#CoffeeMoments with CafePod

Posted on the 16 July 2014 by Mummysspace @mmeeee
For coffee lovers, like my husband and I, it is always interesting to try out the various alternative compatible Nespresso capsules available. With three young kids, two of which are currently sleep adverse teething twins, coffee is not just a little luxury - it is most definitely a necessity to help get me through the day. So as you might expect we put our recent delivery of CafePod capsules to good use.

CafePod Capsules

We were sent four varieties to try - Risteretto (strength 10) gives a definite kick, Intense (strength 8) which is my favorite as I just love the taste, Smooth (strength 5) a perfect mid afternoon pick me up, and Arabica Lungo (strength 4) which is ideal for making a longer milky coffee although I still like to drink it just black.

My #CoffeeMoments

I have loved putting these capsules to the test and have definitely had lots of #CoffeeMoments as a result. These include an early morning caffeine injection to kickstart me into action which I find a Risteretto or Intense perfect for, a much need boost to combat the afternoon lull or I should say, keep me sane and functioning after little sleep and tearaway twins wreak havoc all about the place, not to mention a more experimental CafePod #CoffeeMoments where we brought out the Tia Maria and made a very delicious and potent Tia Espresso Martini.

If you want to make your own Tia Espresso here is what you will need:
  • 30 ml Tia Maria
  • 30 ml Espresso  (Risteretto, Intense or Smooth all work well depending on how strong you want it)
  • 30 ml Vodka
  • 15 ml Liquid sugar (optional - I find it sweet enough without)
  • Coffee Beans (optional to garnish)
Combine all ingredients together with cubed ice in a cocktail shaker and shake. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with coffee beans.

Special Summer Treat

The sunny weather has also inspired me to try out an Affogato which is a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with a shot of espresso which makes a delicious treat for any coffee lover or a great alternative to an after dinner coffee.

 My Verdict

I really liked the different CafePod varieties, as already mentioned my favorite is the Intense, it reminds me of the purple Nespresso capsules in flavour, according to the CafePod taste guide it has notes of chestnut, spices and dark chocolate and as I'm a self confessed dark chocaholic it's no big surprise that I love it so much.

I would definitely recommend CafePod capsules on flavour, variety and taste along with the convenience of being able to purchase them in stores such as Waitrose, Tesco, Whole Foods and Selfridges and online from Amazon.co.uk.
