Spring is a time for many kinds of celebrations—the return of warm weather, the end of the school year, and for many that means graduation.

First of all, congratulations to all of the graduates, especially those in the 2WC family. Graduation is an exciting time followed by a lot of new and exciting things.

In light of the season, I thought I’d take the opportunity to share a few words of wisdom/lessons learned for you recent grads, from a fairly recent grad:

  • Look up from your phone: I mean this figuratively and literally. Having this kind of instant communication and information at your finger tips is a blessing and a curse. Yes, you could quickly Google that small factoid you can’t quite remember, right now, but leave room for wondering in your life. Your brain will thank you. On the literal side of things, you’d be amazed at the things you miss (and potentially walk into) when you’re looking down at your phone. Look up.
  • Don’t feel like you have to pretend to know things: We’ve all been there, you’re talking with someone about a topic you’re barely comprehending, but you feel like you should know what they’re talking about. So, you decide to just smile and nod. Don’t do this. It will backfire. Not knowing something is a wonderful opportunity to learn something new, own it. No one should expect you to know everything at once, and if they do, they’re not worth your time.
  • Have fun: There is a time and place for seriousness, of course, but what’s the point of life if you don’t have a little fun with it. Don’t take yourself too seriously and don’t forget to enjoy life, that’s the whole point.

Congratulations Class of 2015, and good luck!
