…crash

I’ve often written on the pros and cons of our internet culture. Yes, it’s brought us wonderful things—convenience, communication, cat videos. It’s also brought us some bad things—oversharing, trolls, and cat videos. It can be an emotional roller coaster to say the least.

Yesterday brought us a little bit of both.

It started like any other day, yet before many had even had their coffee, something unexpected and wonderful happened. The boy who lived, returned.

News that a new Harry Potter short story, penned by JK Rowling herself, had surfaced on Pottermore.com spread quickly, to say the least.

While it’s not at all uncommon these days for a site to succumb to higher than expected traffic, and well, you know, stop working. But when the digital destination is an unexpected update on everyone’s favorite boy wizard, well, I think we should all just be grateful the stampede to Pottermore only crashed the site. We could have had an Internet explosion on our hands (if such things were possible).

Speaking of crashing…my sincerest sympathies to Brazil fans. That game was hard to watch, even if you weren’t emotionally invested. I can’t even imagine what it was like for a fan.

On the bright side, Pottermore is back up and continuing their coverage of the Quidditch World Cup. So scoot on over there and drown your sorrows in a fictional international wizarding competition.
