Day 61: Feel Good in Your Own Skin.

Posted on the 13 July 2011 by Ellacoquine @ellacoquine
Today was my last official day at work. I still have some things to do on Friday but today is the offical last day of working with my boss and a good portion of my office who are leaving for vacation until August.
Sebastien picked me up at the end of the day as I was closing up my desk and who had the pleasure of meeting my boss who has and will always remind me of Tom Hanks. We left my office in the 16th, hoped on his Vespa and sailed off into the sunset down the Champs-Elysées that was fashioned with patriotic waving French flags in preparation for Bastille Day tomorrow. Or as the native's say 'the 14th of July'. I prefer Bastille Day...
Feeling a bit nostalgic and oddly misty eyed for my last day of work, Sebastien felt that this called for an afterwork drink. Indeed he was right, thata boy! He took me to Le Tape, a rock and roll dive bar in the 11th that had a striking resemblance to my favorite L.A dive, Little Joy. A bar that I used to frequent every weekend with my girlfriends where I used to right offensive things about my vile ex-boyfriend on the grafitti bathroom walls after several Maker's on the rocks. I was such a maniac back then, oh and for the record, I totally got busted and he knew it was me. Damn my swirly handwriting.
Not being bleached or banged anymore I stuck out like a sore thumb in this American Apparel ad that was my current reality as we waited at the bar for our drinks. Luckily, I'm at an age now where I don't really care and have out grown lamé jumpsuits teamed up with primary color bandeau bras. Good thing. I don't have the effort or the energy to be hip and my naturally curly brown hair and hand-me-down cashmere sweaters from my grandma suit me just fine. My Mom always told me that once you hit your thirties you start caring less what people think and it progresses as you get older and thats why old people fart in public. Either that or in my Grandpa's case, can't hear. While I will keep my digestive bodily functions under wraps, as I embark 30, I am getting more comfortable in my skin and have little concern as to what others think. It's liberating.
We ordered two rounds of well-made and might I add, refreshing vodka tonics and filled each other in on our day. While being single has its charms as is the premise of this blog, I must confess that it does feel nice to recap your day with someone over cocktails. I'm starting to like this Sebastien fella...
