Decisions, Decisions…

Mark Twain

“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” ~Mark Twain~

I’ve always been a fan of Mark Twain, more for the various quotes you can find of his throughout the internet then his literary works. The man definitely walked the fine line between genius and insanity quite well. Yet he was also usually spot on, and fairly wise. I was looking for a quote specifically by him and this one just screamed to be used. To me it says that more often than not, the vast majority of people will follow the crowd because it is easier. Whether that means it’s easier than standing up for their own beliefs for fear of persecution and ridicule, or just easier than doing their own research, and formulating their own opinion. It seems that these days just because something is on the internet, or television, it’s just accepted as fact. Nobody wants to refute anything anymore, and learning for yourself just seems too inconvenient.

I guess where I’m going with this is that you should never accept anyone else’s definition of the truth. No matter what the topic or subject may be. Only you can decide what is true and right, and to do so, you have to do your own research, weigh all sides of the scale, and form your own decision and/or opinion based on what speaks and resonates with you. The truth you discover will often surprise you.
