DIY: Blanket Scarf
I love scarfs. I could wear one every day if the hubs let me. When we were living in Phoenix I would still wear them but they were the light weight kind. I was working for then Phoenix Coyotes (now Arizona Coyotes) and the guys would give me a hard time all the time for the amount of scarves that I had.

This year I have seen blanket scarves everywhere. It all started on Instagram (my new favorite social media app) and then continued on pinterest. I knew that I could make them but just didn't know how to go about doing it. I love the Zara scarf that always sells out, but I couldn't justify spending $44 on ONE SCARF. My husband would kill me! So I did my research on the size of typical blanket scarfs and waited until Joann's coupon commotion. (Basically between me and Gary we had 30 coupons total. Yes, Gary gets coupons from Joann's too only to help support my crafting habit.)

I knew that I would stock up and make a variety of scarfs. (Hence, I NOW live in West Virginia and can wear them all day.) First things first, you want to shop for your fabric. In my area I have Joann's and Wal-Mart. I stuck with Joann's because I had a ton of coupons. Also I went a few days before the sale started to find which fabric I wanted and what I currently had in my closet. I highly suggest waiting until you have coupon because the fabric I picked out was $9.99/yard. Then 40% off that so it was a lot of cheaper and nicer on our wallet and budget.

During my research I found that most of them our perfect squares. Most fabric is either 45 inches or 55 inches. So when I had them cut the fabric I told them to cut that amount. Some fabric I had them cut more because I had plans to make other things out of them as well. (With 40% off coupons I may or may not have gone a little crazy)

How to make a blanket scarf:
1. Purchase fabric in the amount you want. (Most say no more than 2 yards.)

2. If the fabric is pattern, find a point where you make a straight cut.

3. If you want the frayed look, pull on the edges until you have the desired look.  I personally don't like this look so I surged mine for a more polished look.

How to tie your blanket scarf:
No reason to invent the wheel on this so I found some of my favorites for you to look.

1. Three ways to tie your blanket scarf

2. Tie a chunky scarf

I love my blanket scarf and wear it all the time. I recently went to Iowa and worn it on the plane. It was great because I wore it as scarf but if I got cold on the plane (which I normally do) I had blanket as well. I was all about efficency on this trip. I had 1 bag and 1 carry on item.

I hope to have my DIY Crafts for you in the next year. Let me know what you want to see made and I might just make it for y'all.

What do you think of the blanket scarf?
