We've already seen some blogs from this outing as a Dorset wedding photographer, featuring beautiful images from this lovely wedding, where the bridal prep was carried out at the bride's family home in Yeovil, Somerset before the truly fabulous wedding ceremony at Sherborne Abbe y in Dorset. Now, it's time to check out some of the more relaxed and informal images from the marquee celebration, which was also held in Sherborne, where the couple also live.
Sometimes I feel it's not quite a 'weddingy blog' when none of the images are about the main parts of the day; the ceremony, the first dance, the cutting of the cake. But those things are far from what makes up a wedding day, and the small moments, being many more and much more varied, are often actually what a wedding is all about. I've said it many times before, but a wedding is not about the venue or the dress or the car; it's about the people that attend, right down to the most distant relation or casual work friend. Because weddings are about emotions and connections, and these people are are real life force.
When I present a set of images to a wedding client, do you know what they nearly always say? 'Oh, the pictures of my family and friends are so amazing, they really capture the real essence of the wedding day'. Whilst people are grateful and appreciative of the ceremony images, the portraits, the details, that's not what they talk about to me. The image of those who you cared about enough to ask to attend your wedding are the most valuable of all. These are the ones you'll look at time and again in future, when that person is no longer with you; these are the images that you'll smile at when you remember the happy moments during your wedding day. The formal lineups aren't going to bring back fond memories, but people dancing, laughing, playing together will. That's why I'm a documentary wedding photographer.
