Downtonians, it’s that time of year again. At long last season five is here!
That means we’ll finally get to see who will be Mary’s new Matthew, what’s next for Anna and Bates, and what’s up with Edith who finally got a compelling storyline last season.
Unless, of course, you’re in the US. Thanks to PBS, once again we’re forced to wait an additional three months to return to the hallowed halls of Downton.
While there’s no point in beating a dead horse, we would still like to make our argument for why we shouldn’t have to wait. Who knows, this could be the year it finally makes a difference.
- Piracy — while many wait patiently until the series airs in January, the fact is many won’t. They’ll turn to the shady corners of the Internet hoping to a glimpse of Downton months before their fellow citizens.
- Internet — the fact is, we live in a connected world. While in the past, PBS would be our only source for British programming, in the world of Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon, the television world has gotten a lot smaller.
- Spoilers — we have one word for you — Matthew. Before the third season had even begun in the US, articles, blog posts, and tweets of his demise were all over the Internet.
On that note, we’ll leave you to either patiently wait until January 4th…or not.
