Easter Bells

In France it’s the church bells that leave Easter eggs in the garden for the children, not a rabbit. The bells all leave for Rome on Easter Friday, that’s why you can’t hear them ringing over the weekend. They return on Easter Sunday morning, coinciding funnily enough with the end of mass, and on their way home they drop eggs and chocolate for the children in our gardens.

They’re not daft either these bells, in gardens with dogs they place the eggs in trees and bushes, to avoid repetition of that awful day when all the kids found was a scrap of blue tinfoil and a sick looking dog. The bells also leave useful little presents such as felt tips and colouring books, one year they even left a play tent and tunnel, anything to keep young children amused during a long family meal in fact.

So, let’s hear it for the bells – ding dong ding!
