Eritrea-sick

Posted on the 13 April 2012 by Sarahkasm @Sarahkasm

I feel a sickness in my chestIn my abdomenBut mostly, in my head
I think of the stories my parents tellOf homeOf good memoriesOf football ragsRinging bells and runningAnd Jaliyya school pranksSibling fights, and gagsCousins up to no goodAnd the whole neighborhoodIs your family
I curse the cityAnd I curse the countryThat doesn’t want me
I feel a sicknessFor homeAnd the one I madeIs threatening to explodeAnd send me awayThen I remember that I am not alone
What a sad generation
We have everything they dreamed ofYet we are not half as happyAs the children in Keren in the sixties.
