…Favor

20140615-191336-69216083.jpgWhile it would be nice if in every sporting competition, the better team always won, it’s just not true.  Sometimes a bad call, or a freak accident can affect the outcome of the game.

Never has that been truer, than in this year’s World Cup semifinal round.

No, I’m not referring to Argentina’s shootout victory over the Netherlands…although that is a really awful way to have to lose a game.  I’m not even referring to Germany’s win by default against Brazil, when the entire Brazilian team failed to show up for the match (at least I assume that’s what happened based on the final score).

What I’m talking about is interference from a much higher power, some might even say “The Higher Power.”

It may just be coincidence that the World Cup final this year will be played between the two nations of the two living popes, but what a coincidence indeed.

This is either a truly astonishing testament to the power of prayer, or another example of the abuses of the Catholic Church…seriously, shouldn’t you be busy using this super power for things like disease, famine, poverty, world peace, etc.?

However, being a born and raised Catholic, I will forgive them for this blatant misuse of prayer-power, and instead point out that we’re about to witness an epic showdown between the two most powerful prayers alive (or at least I assume that’s how they pick the pope…by pray-off).

While, I’d like to say that Pope Francis and Argentina have the edge, since he’s the current representative of God on earth, it’s hard count out Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI and the Germans.

Either way, it should be an excellent match, and an excellent way to finally determine which of the two living popes God loves more.  Here’s to a great game!
