Fight Club 2

Fight Club 2OK I may be slow on the up take especially with me being such a fan of Chuck Palanhiuk, so this post may be slow but non the less interesting for me to write about. Well today I have stumbled across the news of an impending sequel to the 1996 novel 'Fight Club' in graphic novel form. Now with the huge popularity and cult status of not only the novel but also the film adaptation, I'm sure I'm not the only person excited but sceptical at the same time, do we want to revisit these characters and will it enhance or tarnish the legacy of the original? What will the format change to graphic novel bring and will there be a sequel made? (most probably knowing Hollywood).

The news was shared by Palanhiuk at a panel discussion, Ode to Nerds, held as part of Comic-Con International in San Diego. The sequel is to be set 10 years after the assumed demise of Tyler Durden.

In a recent interview with Hustler magazine, Chuck talked more extensively about the actual plot of the Fight Club sequel:

The sequel will be told from the- at first- submerged perspective of Tyler Durden as he observes the day-to-day tedium of the narrator's life. Because 20th Century-Fox created the convention of calling the protagonist Jack, I'm calling him Cornelius. He's living a compromised life with a failing marriage, unsure about his passion for his wife. The typical midlife bullshit. Likewise, Marla is unsatisfied and dreams of accessing the wild man she'd once fallen in love with. She tampers with the small pharmacy of drugs that her husband needs to suppress Tyler, and- go figure- Tyler re-emerges to terrorize their lives."

Palahniuk has yet to sign up with a publisher for the series -

"not until I hammer out the complete story" - and is being introduced to artists and creators from some of the major comic publishers like Marvel, DC and Dark Horse by fellow author Chelsea Cain.

We shall have to see what emerges from the warped mind of Palahniuk but if his previous work is anything to go by, he won't drop the ball, exciting times.
