Well kids, it’s here, the big day. I assume DVR’s were set long ago, but just in case, I’ll give you a minute to fix that memory lapse.

Those of you skipping it because it’s a “kids show,” you have my sympathies. Yes, my personal experience with this story started as a child, with a VHS of Mary Martin’s “Peter Pan,” that can still be found at my grandmother’s house (thank you Grandma), but Peter Pan is a coming of age tale for children of all ages.

It’s about growing up, yes, but more than that, it’s about holding onto your inner child. Or as Peter would sing (hold onto your green tights, here comes a lyric):

“If growing up means it would be beneath my dignity to climb a tree, I’ll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up. Not me.”

Everything in life is an adventure for Peter, as it could (dare I say should) be for all of us.

Peter Pan, is full of our greatest joys and fears, it’s a story, that unlike its protagonist grows up with its readers. Because more than anything else, Peter Pan is about time, and how we choose to spend it. You can be a Peter, living your life one adventure at a time, or Hook chasing after the past. Now, just for good measure, here’s a quote from the book:

“I suppose it’s like the ticking crocodile, isn’t it? Time is chasing after all of us.”

Whatever, happens come 8/7 central tonight, take a moment to appreciate the awesomeness, that is the genuine success of a live televised musical production in this day and age. Even if Allison Williams is suddenly replaced by Carrie Underwood and half of the lost boys are misplaced en route to the set…it’s going to be awesome.

…bi-daily smile…
