For The Love Of Books: Ouch That Hurt!

Posted on the 30 May 2013 by Susiemcbeth @susiemcbeth
River has recently become obsessed with books. Hardback, soft-back, picture book, story book, the lot! Basically if you can read it to him, he wants you to, 24-7!
We have a massive book shelf stacked with the twins books and every morning after his milk, he climbs off the sofa and spreads all the books out on the floor.
His favourites are Pocoyo, Henry Hugglemonster, Puppy Woof Woof, That's Not My Tractor, 5 Christmas Penguins and The Hungry Caterpillar. He sits there and turns the pages, points to the characters, plays peekaboo with Pocoyo and has lots of fun getting me to read them (whilst he turns the pages) again and again and again. And again!
It is great that he loves to read so much. Indigo does too, though she prefers to take her book off to a corner and flick through it by herself (she is currently more into music and spends her days tapping out tunes on her tambourine and maracas, but I will save that adventure for another post).
River loves it so much that he will quite forcefully try to get  your attention, if he is in the mood for story time.
By forcefully I mean lob the book (lovingly, with a little giggle) at my head! If you ever wondered what a hardback kids book feels like on the back of the head, let me clear it up for you. It hurts like heck! It is mainly the corners that are the killer though - But his enthusiasm knows no bounds and I would rather a book addiction then an addiction to sugar so I will take my sore head with grace (though I do occasionally feel like bubble wrapping my head so they just bounce off).
In all seriousness, I love that he loves books and that we get to spend mommy son time leafing through fun tales that will hopefully develop his imagination and sense of adventure as well as a love for literature that will hopefully stay with him for life.
