Geek is Cool!: Kings of Convenience Concert- El Concierto De Kings of Convenience

ENG. I'd never seen them live before; in fact, I understand they don't tour that much outside of Europe. But here they were, selling over 6k tickets in Mexico City, most sold concert for them this season, 'cause Chilangos love their indie, and they especially love the Kings of Convenience! I confess I'm a newbie to the indie scene, when I was growing up all I listened to were Latin tunes, you know, salsa, merengue, vallenato, the sort. A bit of pop, a bit of 80's and 90's rock, especially rock in Spanish.
But recently I've found myself finding all sorts of new music tastes, among which is this fabulous duo. And Mexico City is the perfect venue for these types of concerts, they all come here at some point! Which is how I found myself sitting on the top floor of a really crowded concert venue last week watching Eirik Glambek sing and play while Erlene Oye repeatedly told us to quiet down because our cheering noise hurt his ears! Now, I can picture this guy as a kid, being allergic to everything and asking the kids to please keep it down so he could think and play. I love it! Geek is the new cool, in fact, that audience was full of one kind of geek that when I was a kid no one would dream of embracing out in the open: the hipster geek!
They're cool, they're stylish, and they're ready to party! I'm pretty geeky myself, but this is a whole different thing (of course I only say that because my geekiness goes back to the 90s, and whether I like it or not, I'm beginning to sound like those parents who look at the 'new' teenage generation in bewilderment). But I love it, I love that geek is cool again... I mean a song that says you'd rather dance than talk takes me back to middle school!
So it is that thanks to the new geek-is-cool movement that I got a chance to listen to beautiful music, look at a  delicately built stage and dance to rhythms I wouldn't have dreamed of dancing to while I was a teenager obsessed with salsa! Plus, nothing wins me over like a tribute to locals, and when Erlene and Eirik brought two mariachi trumpetists to stage they definitely made my night!
