Marvel fans, today is the day. “Avengers: Infinity War,” finally hits theaters, and the summer blockbuster season officially begins.
Don’t worry, you don’t need to adjust your calendars, it’s definitely still April. If you’re wondering how the summer blockbuster season could be starting just over a month into spring, so am I.Don’t get me wrong, I love the summer blockbuster season. It balances out the movie year, and offers the perfect foil to the movie awards season.
Yes, there’s occasionally some crossovers, but that just keeps things interesting.
The point is, this balance between the highbrow films, and the ones that make money keeps us sane. Which is why it’s a problem that the summer now starts in April and ends in October (if we’re lucky).
Can we handle that level of comic book, action, apocalyptic, superhero overload? Probably. Will we enjoy every minute of it? Probably not, but I suppose that’s what the season is all about—taking the good with the bad…and the truly terrible.
