…Get Up

110111_mesh-office-chairIt should come as no surprise to most that our office chairs are slowly killing us, but it never hurts to have a reminder.

This week offered a few studies with equally depressing, but valuable information on this front.  However, the most intriguing, and slightly encouraging one comes from Louisiana.

I won’t bore you with the details, but the studies findings suggest that the mere act of standing more, could extend your life expectancy.  That’s standing, as in standing completely still.  You don’t even need to walk in place, or tap your foot, or move your arms. The simple act of not sitting can, in theory, improve your health.

Of course, for most of us, the idea of being the “weird one” in the office who stands at their desk, doesn’t sound entirely appealing.  Not to mention the fact that, unless you have one of those adjustable desks, standing at your desk would most certainly lead to some serious back problems.

Well, perhaps we can all take some baby steps into the whole standing thing by merely stretching our legs once or twice an hour, before returning to our life shortening chairs.
