Getting My Run on

Posted on the 09 July 2011 by Marensmorsels @marentweets

Hey guys the best thing in the entire world happened to me! My mom’s really good friend Dorothy e-mailed me asking if I would like to get together 4-5 times a week to go jogging. On my goodness,Totally Great!

I’ve had a hard time getting back into a fitness regime since ankle surgery and hopefully starting really basic with light jogging and a partner will keep me more accountable. So twice this week we ran about two miles. We also walked a little and gossiped! Best workout plan ever.

Because both my summer jobs involve being on my feet almost all day (working camp at the children’s theater and coaching basketball) I bought a pedometer. It’s so fun!

I love knowing how many steps I did for the day. Yesterday I did over 12,000 and I burned over 600 calories. I was so motivated during the day to see all my steps add up.

I bought this pedometer at Target for $29.99. It’s the New Balance Via Slim. I liked it because it uses an accelerometer rather than an internal weight trigger to count steps making them more accurate. I don’t have to wear it on my waist either. It can count steps from my pocket, purse, shirt sleeve… basically anywhere on my body. The main reason why I bought this one is because it’s so skinny, I do actually wear it on my waist band during the day and it’s completely hidden.

It also has a clock, tracks calories burnt, miles traveled per hour, total time spent “moving” and records all these stats for seven days. I can’t believe I just walked and jogged two miles and burnt over 600 calories yesterday.

I’ve also upped my hydration. I’m drinking three of these a day.

I’ve had a hard time in the past regulating how much I eat when I start to get more active. My metabolism speeds up and I go crazy, eating carbs left and right. I think it will be cool to actually know how much activity I did and then eat the right amount of calories, not too few.
