Giving Mom what is #RightfullyHers

A day dedicated to the hand that rocks the cradle and should rule the world.

She does, quietly, tirelessly, lovingly, subtly, without fanfare, without expectations. We love our Mom so much that we take her, and everything she does, for granted.

In today's world, where communication is so much easier, with instant messaging via Whatsapp and other social media where we hold the world in our hands, we tend to forget the person who brought us into this world.

Our Mothers.

We simply enjoy everything she does for us, sometimes even complaining about it. The moment we hear that ping on the phone we grab it, only to shrug it off when we see it is a message from our Moms. We know she cares, but we find her constant outpouring of love annoying. Isn't it ironical that if the message is from someone else, we respond right away? Why is it that we think it is okay to ignore our Mom's calls sometimes?

Picture this:

You are in a meeting. Your Mom calls. You just silence your phone and carry on.

You are in a meeting. A client calls. You excuse yourself and step away to take the call.

You hear a WhatsApp message alert. You grab your phone to see who it is - when you see it is your Mom, you don't react because you have more important things to do.

You're working late. Of course you haven't told your Mom. She messages you to ask when you'll be home. You make a face and feel exasperated and don't bother to reply.

Does that sound like you?

Sigh.

Right from the day we're born, our parents shower their love on us equally. But traditionally, it is our father's name that is linked to ours, from the birth certificate to our school or college admissions. Have you ever stopped to think why it isn't our Mother's name?
