…Go Beyond

This picture perfectly captures my reaction to “Toy Story 4″

Yesterday, Pixar had a shocking announcement for its fans. If you haven’t heard the big news yet (and can’t figure it out based on the photo to the right), don’t panic, it’s not bad news.  Although, the jury is still out regarding whether it can be classified as “good.”

Okay, I’ll stop stalling — “Toy Story 4″ is happening.

I would like to start by saying that I am reserving judgment until the film actually comes out.

I won’t lie, my initial response was, “What?!?”.  It’s not that I don’t love the Toy Story films, I do.  It’s just that Pixar very clearly stated that “Toy Story 3″ was the end, and with the exception of some short films, they wouldn’t be making any more Toy Story films.

If you Google “Toy Story” right now, you’ll find plenty of arguments against making a fourth film.  I will not be adding to that list. After allowing some time for the concept of a fourth film to digest, I think I’m on board.

The main argument against extending the series is that “Toy Story 3″ wrapped everything up so nicely.  I agree with that, but perhaps its time for those of us who remember seeing the first, second, and third film in theaters to learn how to share.  Much like Andy handed down his beloved toys to Bonnie, it’s time for us to let another generation enjoy these characters that we were lucky enough to grow up with.

That being said, I’d like to directly address those making this film.  Pixar, we expect nothing short of greatness, and you know we’ll be watching.
