…Go Ever On and On

20150325-191544-69344210.jpgHappy Tolkien Reading Day, my fellow bookworms and nerds!

I know, it’s another incredibly specific, random holiday, but I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to celebrate a holiday inspired  by one of my favorite authors.

Thanks to the popularity of “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” movie trilogies, most likely, you’re already familiar with J.R.R. Tolkien’s stories. However, if you haven’t read the books, then you’ve missed out on more than half of his work.

While the films have done an incredible job of bringing Tolkien’s complex world of Middle-earth to life, the true complexity can only be enjoyed through reading the books. Tolkien created a whole world filled with groups of people with their own languages, history, songs, and stories. It’s something that has inspired countless other authors since, and continues to inspire readers today.

I could go on, but instead I’ll leave you with some words from the man himself:

If more of us valued food and cheer above hoarded gold, it would be a much merrier world.

~ J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Hobbit”

I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

~ J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Fellowship of the Ring”
