…Have the Last Laugh

Posted on the 21 May 2015 by Zer @the2women

…Have the Last Laugh This What to Watch Wednesday, I’m paying homage to David Letterman, who wraps up a 33-year career of hosting late night TV tonight (first as the host of “Late Night with David Letterman” and then as the host of “Late Night with David Letterman”).

Now, I know what you’re thinking, and don’t worry, this isn’t going to be another “Top Ten” list. I already got that out of my system when it was announced that Colbert was taking over.

No, I’m going to keep this short and sweet. The man is a living legend. And I realize that Letterman is not everyone’s cup of tea, but that’s what made him so great.

There’s a certain amount of pandering to the audience that happens in the late night world, which is all well and good, but Letterman never comes across that way. He never tries to be likable to everyone. His delivery is dry and sometimes brutally honest, which might rub some people the wrong way, but you have to at least admire that kind of honesty in a host, even if you don’t always agree with them.

He stands out in the world of late night, and will be greatly missed (even if we all are kind of excited to see what Colbert will do in his new role). Thanks for all the laughs!
