Hawk Attack

Posted on the 11 May 2011 by Chelseajmartin

Our lovely lady hens were subject to a hawk attack this morning. All 14 were milling around their pen around 7am this morning (eating their breakfast worms) when a hawk swooped down on one of the new bantams. (the young bantams are about the size of a quail)

Both of the roosters were outside the pen and were either incapable or indifferent to the hawk. What good are these silly roosters!?

Of course I go tarring out into the yard, Gerrie my mom in tow, to chase off the hawk and address the possible damage. Fortunately the little bantam didn’t sustain any physical damage, all the hens were a little stirred up.

Today and tomorrow we’re hanging deer netting over the pen. No chicken snacks for that hawk!
