While we are currently being pummeled by Sandy, I thought I would shed some sunshine on this dreary day by talking about our fun day at Hershey Park.
This Saturday was my sister-in-law’s birthday and she wanted to spend the day with the family in Hershey Park. During the month of October, Hershey runs Hershey Park in the Dark, where the whole park is turned into a fall/Halloween festival.
We were all pretty excited to head up to Hershey because our family hadn’t been in over ten years and you know how much we love roller coasters.
The whole family met at my parents’ house for the 90 minute drive up to Hershey, PA. We got there right when the park opened at 2 so that we could avoid the crowds and pack in as many roller coasters as possible.
A lot of the other park goers showed up dressed for the fall occasion, including my nephew, who was sporting his zombie themed costume.
Not only were the patrons dressed up but so was the park. Hershey renames the rides for the Halloween scene.
And decorates the park.
We spent the afternoon running from roller coaster to roller coaster.
Some were more fun the others. This one was straight up painful. The sidewinder sends you barreling to the ground and then into several spirals only to stop the coaster and send the car in reverse back through the spirals. Needless to say, my head did not appreciate this one.
My nephew wasn’t too keen on most of the intense roller coasters. In fact, I think the most fun he had was on the pirate ship that oscillated back and forth. He put his hands up in the air and screamed in jubilation the whole time.
The boys were also pretty excited to get to play carnival games, which surprisingly were pretty easy to win.

Once we finished with the rides and games, we headed over to Chocolate World, where you can get a fake tour of the chocolate factory (with complimentary chocolate samples) and check out Hershey’s huge candy store.
Mr. A and my sister-in-law were pretty excited about this massive bar of chocolate– it was only $20.
All in all, we had a great day with the whole family celebrating Shawnah’s birthday. The rides were fun and the crowds were manageable. I would definitely recommend it. You can even take the kids trick-or-treating around the park. All that for only $30.
I know I’m definitely looking forward to go back to visit again in the summer.
