Hiking Tuckermans Ravine

Posted on the 14 April 2015 by Mattie @comfyconfident

One of my best friends, Kelly, was paralyzed in a ski accident in college, but that has not slowed her down or stopped her from accomplishing amazing feats. She pushes us to challenge ourselves and get outside our comfort zone. It’s truly amazing to watch her achieve her goals and be a part of her journey.

This past weekend a group of our closest friends pulled her up Tuckermans Ravine in North Conway, NH which is the backside of Mount Washington. It is a little over 3 mile hike to the bottom of the trial to the bottom of bowl which is an additional hike up to actually be able to ski.

They attached a rope to her monoski with a dog-team-like line out in front where 8 people could clip in their bags and pull her monoski in unison. I joked that it was like Santa being pulled by his reindeer, “On dacer, on prancer…” They also built a little aluminum frame behind her monoski and tied ski poles horizontally so people could help stabilize the monoski on the way up and push when needed. It was incredible to watch these guys pull her up the mountain and such an unbelievable thing that we were able to pull off.

Kelly wrote about her experience on her website, click here to read about the full story and how we did it.
