This is a truly fabulous wedding that I was really thrilled to work on - and my first opportunity to work as a Holbrook House wedding photographer! The ceremony was held in one of my regular and most favourite wedding ceremony locations, Sherborne Abbey in Dorset, with the reception and celebrations held just over the border into Somerset at Holbrook House, near Wincanton.
It's always exciting, as a wedding photographer, to work at new venues, and Holbrook House certainly didn't disappoint! Not only that - the weather was just perfect for a wedding day, and the house and grounds looked absolutely glorious. Having said that, though, they struggled to hold a candle to how incredible the bride looked - and what a dress!
This wedding day started off with bridal prep at Holbrook House, where I was lucky enough to be able to capture some hugely memorable moments of the bride's preparation (and as you'll know, it's one of my favourite parts of the day to photograph). I then travelled on ahead to arrive at Sherborne Abbey prior to the bride's arrival - and is there a more special wedding location in Dorset than the elegance and grace of the truly epic Sherborne Abbey? I've shot quite a few weddings here now, and I am always awed by the experience - so I can just imagine how it feels for the wedding guests.
As in many summertime weddings, I like to break up the couples' photography into two short spots - one in the afternoon reception, and one in the early evening when the light is softer, the feel is different, and of course, the couple are more relaxed and can creep away for a few minutes unnoticed! As my wedding photography style is mainly documentary, I keep the couples' portraits element of the wedding day fairly short and sweet, for the comfort of the couple; but by planning ahead, we get beautiful images in the locations they want, without having to take them away from their guests for too long a time.
