Scott and I have decided that this is finally the weekend we take on the master closet and potentially, just maybe, the master bath. I am dying to make that thing over, more especially since I saw this reader feature on Young House Love {seriously, if you like DIY projects and don’t read their blog, you need to!}.

Here’s what we started with as a to-do list up there:

The Master {Half} Bath

  • Replace laminate floor with tile if necessary {but if possible, we’d rather not}
  • Replace vanity
  • Add built in storage
  • Rework closet and add storage system as necessary

Except that list was way too kind. I forgot these:

  • Cut and reframe mirror to fit space
  • Replace horrible vanity light fixture
  • Replace overhead vent
  • Rip out and patch medicine cabinet
  • Rip out carpet in closet {seriously, ick!}
  • Rip out second-hand folding door
  • Put in bamboo flooring {which we already bought at Costco!}
  • Put in baseboards
  • Spackle and paint all walls

So there’s a lot of stuff that needs to be done in there. And we’re not doing it all this weekend. This weekend, I’ll be happy if we get the closet in, or at least mostly done. And I want to at least shop for the vanity. Debating on whether to spring for the full version at Home Depot or pick up some of the ones we found on Craig’s List {I’m still amazed at all the great home materials you can find and sell on Craig’s List}. We’ll see how that goes.

By the time we’re done with it, the bathroom isn’t going to be looking like any of these pictures. I seriously wish it were, but we just don’t have the room. However, we have room enough and energy enough to turn it into something nice, and I can’t wait to share it with you! And it just might have some of the tile features you see, some of the vanity features you see, and a little hint of zen, because that’s really inspiring the renovation plans we’re putting together.

If you’re interested in more of what’s inspiring this makeover, check out my Hawaii Renovation ideabook on Houzz, and stay tuned for project updates. We’re pretty much done with the plans and we’ve submitted all our permission forms to the HOA and to the city for permits, so we’re just about ready to get started with some of these projects! Who’s totally excited? This DIY dork right here!

Happy weekend!
