How to Sucker Your Friends in 5 Minutes Or Less…

Posted on the 10 June 2011 by Maggyruth @maggyruth

“If you do this, I’ll crochet you something.”

Granted, this generally only applies to a small percentage of my friends (because not everyone appreciates loops of yarn jumbled together in patterns.)  It also generally involves them making something for me (to help fill the few spaces I have left in my apartment with MORE STUFF!)

The thing is…I didn’t even have to initiate anything.

Ok, I try to knit.  I haven’t been at it long enough to be any sort of good at it, and I envy my friends at my local Stitch n’ Bitch (yes, those are real, and yes, I belong to one) who sit there just knitting away.  Granted, a number of them are envious of my mad crocheting skillz (because when you say something like that, you have to spell ‘skills’ with a ‘z’,) so it’s just a general fiberwork love-fest.  I was thinking to myself, “Self, wouldn’t it be cool if you offered to crochet a shawl for someone if they were willing to knit one for you?”  I pondered this question, and I even had a target individual.  Then, whilst sitting (and ripping back some stitches that were pissing me off), one of the group members (I can’t say ladies because we do actually have a gentleman who frequents the group) says to me, “I would totally knit you a shawl if you crochet me one.”

SCORE!!

So, now I have two people who are interested in a swap…they get pretty crocheted things, I get pretty knitted things.  Happy dance, happy dance!

How have you suckered your friends lately?
