In a sentence: I Am Number Four is two hours of television quality goodness sans commercial breaks.
For the actors: Heading up the cast is Alex Pettyfer, a relative no name for all intents and purposes, as the titular Number Four, or John Smith. Mr. Pettyfer does a serviceable job as a stony-faced Lorien (an alien race) possessing superpowers called Legacies who falls in love with the local sweetheart and must battle the powerful Mogadorians (another alien race that destroyed Number Four's home world).
