I wish I had these as a First Time Mom

Becoming a mother for the first time is a life-changing experience. A friend of mine recently delivered her first baby and I couldn't help thinking back to the time when I delivered my son. The excitement of discovering I was pregnant, the months that followed, the care involved until D-day when I held him in my arms for the first time...all these are vivid memories.

During my first trimester, like most mothers-to-be, I experienced all the classic issues that go with pregnancy. Suddenly my body did not seem like my own. The changes were not always easy to deal with. Out of all the transformations, though, the one thing I had the biggest challenge with was my skin. As it is, I am blessed with sensitive sky prone to dryness, and have forever been on the lookout for the perfect solutions that would keep my skin moist and supple. I had a complex regimen that involved applying oil before I bathed and using moisturizer twice a day to avoid looking as though I had just spent a day at a construction site.

During pregnancy, my skin problems seemed to compound, probably because of the changes my body was going through. I was already dealing with mood swings and morning sickness in the first trimester. On top of that, I had to deal with swollen tender breasts, aches and pains, digestion issues and leg cramps! I also discovered that I could no longer wear any jewellery, thanks to a mysterious rash that would instantly develop!

My skin would turn red and I would go crazy trying to treat it safely because I did not want to take medication for it. Of course, I followed my doctor's advice to the T - drinking plenty of water and being active. But you know how it is. I was too scared to try any skincare products, for fear of a rash on my already sensitive skin.

And then, when my son was born, all the discomfort was forgotten. Our joy knew no bounds. We rejoiced in his presence. We were ecstatically happy, but I couldn't ignore my skin woes. I now had stretch marks and fatigue to tackle, along with almost-always sore nipples from breast-feeding. I really wished there was a safe skincare product I could use to relieve it.

Would love to hear how you handed your skincare woes!
