Image of The Day : Hugs for the Bridesmaids

Posted on the 14 December 2017 by Belinda Mccarthy @b_mccarthyphoto

You've probably seen me write on several occasions that documentary wedding photography isn't just about the big moments; in fact, it's much more concerned with all the little moments, which go into the creation of an emotional, enjoyable and unforgettable wedding day. That's why I've chosen this particular shot - taken at a wedding at Brympton House, Somerset - as Image of the Day, as it shows one of those 'little moments' which might not seem memorable to us, the outsiders, but will undoubtedly bring back wonderful memories for those who were in the photograph.

Being a bridesmaid or flower girl is a huge thing for a little girl - most likely exciting and terrifying in equal measures! These two did such an amazing job at the church wedding at Brympton House, that they definitely deserved these congratulations and hugs after the ceremony. If you're having little ones playing a part in your wedding celebrations, then you'll know how excited they'll get about it... and potentially how overwhelming it can be for them at the big moment! So whilst it's great to plan their part in the celebrations, make sure they know that if they feel that it's too much when it comes down to it, it really doesn't matter.

You may have dreamt of your flower girl walking in front of you down the aisle, scattering petals... but if this doesn't work out, it doesn't really matter. It's more important to have all your loved ones happy and comfortable during the ceremony, rather than upset and stressed.

These two little girls definitely had an amazing day at this wonderful Brympton House wedding and were such a delight to photograph. I hope they still have amazing memories of the day to look back upon... although right now, I'm sure they're thinking more about Father Christmas, and rightly so!
