India On My Plate (IOMP) A Great Place To Dine Out With Family

Posted on the 04 January 2017 by Jaideep Khanduja @PebbleInWaters

IOMP (India On My Plate) is a great example of innovation and agility. I didn’t know every 15th there is a transformational change in the menu. Most of the items change. But the charm of dishes and hospitality doesn’t. It remains consistent and continuously improvising.  If you ask me, I would definitely love to visit this place again. Spacious seating, dignified place, great decor, transparent chef’s area, innovative recipes, are few of the experiences I gained on my visit to India On My Plate today.

If you ask me improvement points for India On My Plate, there are very few. But then small improvements always take you to next level. Firstly, one of the small bowls given for serving of Dal was not clean. Secondly, the serving process needs a little improvement so that not even a single droplet spills on the table. I always wish for a handwash bowl before the meals and I think all good restaurants will start thinking about it in that direction. Otherwise, how about a sanitization bottle or wet napkins at the entrance of the restaurant?

Now about the good, very good and great points at India On My Plate. There are many. The innovation really reflects in the recipes. Firstly, at INR 1199 this is a grand treat. Don’t repeat starters, though they are fabulous. Because then you might have to compromise with the main course. You must have everything on the menu. As all the items are worth trying. And, of course, the desserts are not to miss at all. Hence, plan to fill your appetite accordingly.

The welcome drink (Chaach) is great in taste. I violated my own rule of having every item once only and took another one. The starters are equally great in taste. In veg starters, the best two to my taste were SOYETA TIKKI which is a corn tikki taken from Mewadi Bhoj, and MOLAGA PODI ALU TUK which is crispy potatoes with southern spices. These are the best two of the five veg starters in my opinion.

But as a rule, I tried all. In non-veg starters, again, the best two to my taste are MUTTA KEBAB which is egg and potato rolls in Kerala style, and KONKANI TAWA FRY MACCHI. But I will add one more here. It is SHRIMP 65. In fact, it was so delicious that I had to violate my rule again and order it one more time. Only one starter of all the 10 (5 veg and 5 nonveg) that I didn’t like is AMRITSARI GOSHT CHAAMPEN at India On My Plate.

India On My Plate

It is INDIA ON MY PLATE in the real sense. And the best part is the strategy to compel you to visit this place every month with the change of menu on every 15th. In fact, there is another attraction for dinner. There is live music every night. If you are a music lover, like me, then this is another pulling force to visit here. Now since the place is within Fortune Select Excaliber Hotel (an ITC member Hotel), your vehicle is in safe hands for valet parking.

In the main course out of 8 items, I had a second serving of three dishes. These are ALU PANEER, SARSON DA SAAG, and NADRU KOFTE. In Breads, I tried MAKKAI ROTI and MISSI ROTI. And don’t skip any of the 5 desserts. Though I had only two and both were fabulous. These are MOHANTHAL and ADA PRADHMAN. Did I tell, that I had three rounds of LEMON ICED TEA during all this time I spent here? Overall, a fabulous experience. BON APETIT India On My Plate.
