Indian Summer
My favorite fall themed poem. I remember having to memorize it in grade 5, and I have yet to forget the first 4 lines. I love it because it is exactly what Autumn looks like in these parts, and it makes it seem so romantic... don't you think?Indian SummerAlong the line of smoky hillsThe crimson forest stands,And all the day the blue-jay callsThroughout the autumn lands.
Now by the brook the maple leans,
With all his glory spread; And all the sumachs on the hills Have turned their green to red.
Now, by great marshes wrapt in mist,
Or past some river's mouth,Throughout the long still autumn dayWild birds are flying south.
~William Wilfred Campbell (1860-1919)
