January Goals

Posted on the 08 January 2013 by Laureneverafter @laureneverafter

Doing monthly goals is not something I’ve ever done on my blog before, but after getting inspired by other favorite bloggers and friends, such as Melissa and Stephany, I wanted to give it a try, as well. I figure if I updated my monthly progress and intentions on my blog, it will inspire more follow-through and determination, because I would totally rather come back here with good news about reaching my goals than telling y’all how bad I suck, right?

Read five books.

There are five-ish weeks in the month of January, and while I didn’t get my current read finished last week due to a Sunday filled with Grey’s Anatomy and organizing my room, I still intend on getting another book read this week, but it will not be Little Women as I originally intended. Since I’ve pushed myself into this little predicament, I’ll save the March family’s saga for a week where I can start my new read on Monday morning.

Write three chapters.

I originally said I wanted to write a chapter per week on my novel-in-progress, but after not being able to get that done last week due to working on other writing projects and having other life happenings crop up, I’m going to push it back to three chapters. If I can get five chapters completed, that would be great, but I also want to leave myself time to work on other projects.

Finish revising my current short story and query an old one.

The short story I’ve been working on for months now is more or less finished, but it still needs some revisions. I’m thinking about getting some friends who I know will give me good feedback to read it, that way I can gauge what’s working, what needs further developing, and what needs to go. Then there is a short story I wrote for a junior year fiction workshop that I’ve been trying to find a home for off-and-on for the last couple of years since I wrote it. I adore this story, and plan to start querying it to some smaller literary journals. Or I may decide to enter it into a contest, depending on how much the entry fee is.

Attend two yoga classes.

My friend, Brittany, and I bought passes through LivingSocial to a local yoga studio and have our first class Monday night. We’re planning on getting a light sushi dinner beforehand. I’m looking forward to seeing how this goes. I’ve been wanting to try yoga for a while and am eager to do some kind of activity that keeps from being so lazy. If I could afford it, which I can’t right now, I would totally go ahead and buy a membership to this place, but they are actually quite expensive.

Get rid of my unwanted books.

Blasphemy, right? That I have a box of unwanted books lying around is crazy-talk! But, alas, it is true. I have a box that is half-filled with old textbooks from school and a few reads I didn’t quite get into that I need to do something with so it will free up space in my room. I’m thinking about taking them to the donation box on USC’s campus sometime this week. Hopefully, they still have it there.

Start querying about guest posts.

Stephany and I were talking about this on Sunday. We both want to start doing guest posts on other blogs and are looking for places at which to write. If you’ve got something you’re interested in discussing on your blog and are looking for people to chime in, Stephany and I would love to host your place for a day! Separately, though. ;)

Do you have any goals you want to accomplish this month?
