Judging a Book by Its Cover

Judging a book by its cover Oh yes, I am definitely one of those who gets enticed by a book's cover. The title is just as important, but the cover, oh the cover can make me click that "purchase" button in a second. In a few weeks, more precisely November 1st, Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing will release my first Regency novella named "A lot of Pride and some Prejudice", as a tribute to my mentor, Jane Austen. I've been looking for the perfect cover for months, trying to identify that particular something that, in my opinion, might encourage the possible reader to click the book and see what's it about. What is really a good cover?
Judging a book by its cover Judging a book by its coverShould it be simple and uncomplicated, or colorful and vibrant? I've looked over Amazon's top 100 Regency books and I must confess there are very few good covers there (according to my taste). Most of them have bare chested guys and half dressed women in puffy dresses on the cover and, to be honest, I don't see how this might reflect the concept of the time....But that's just me...And I've also seen astonishing book covers that don't sell so well, so after all it's all about the content. But the cover has its importance, so what's your opinion? How would the perfect book cover be like? What's your favorite book cover ever?
