Today the world comes together to show our appreciation for our planet, which when you really think about it is a silly concept. Not that we shouldn't be appreciating our planet, but that we would concentrate all that caring into one day.
Of course, we all care (some perhaps more than others). But what the world really needs from all of us is a broader understanding of how humans have and continue to impact the planet we call home. That needs to be swiftly followed by a commitment to minimizing that impact going forward, but let's start with understanding.
It's easy to enjoy a beautiful day like yesterday (for much of the country anyway) and think that there's nothing to worry about. But we all need to start thinking beyond our own yesterdays and tomorrows and think about the big picture (like really big).
So, this Earth Day, I'm going to call on you, crusaders, to care about the planet not just today, but tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that (and the day after that...). All those tomorrow's can make a world of difference.
