…Kick Back

Posted on the 15 November 2014 by Zer @the2women

couchHappy Saturday!

As you continue to enjoy your weekend, here’s some food for thought courtesy of a few scientific studies that came out this week.

First, there’s a new study out of Arizona State University, which found that exercise can make you gain weight.  Participants in the study were asked to walk three times a week and do thirty minutes on the treadmill over a 12 week period. Of the 81 test subjects who participated in the study, 70 percent gained more weight during the research.

Before you start freaking out, and questioning your gym routine, you should know that the study was conducted with overweight and sedentary women.  Also, the study did not track the calorie intake of its participants.  So, there’s still hope.

Next, we have a study from the University of Toronto, which found that people who play action video games such as Call of Duty or Assassin’s Creed seem to learn a new sensorimotor skills more quickly than non-gamers do.  Or to put it more simply, they have better eye-hand coordination.

Which isn’t exactly surprising if you’ve ever watched even an amateur gamer play, but it does serve as an excellent excuse to spend the better part of the weekend on the couch.

So, if the cold weather wasn’t a good enough reason to hibernate for the weekend, you now have a little bit of “science” to back up your argument.  After all, you need to work on your sensorimotor skills, and you wouldn’t want to harm your health with too much physical activity.

Enjoy the rest of you weekend!
